Why an Astroscan?!

I got the Astroscan 2001, 4.125" Newtonian Reflector instead of larger Dob or a Schmitt Cassegrain because I figured it would be much handier to use. It is! If I notice a clear sky I can setup and be looking at Saturn in less than 3 minutes. It's light. It doesn't take up much room. The RKE optics are excellant and the utlra-wide view makes spotting pretty simple. The mount is rock-solid steady (a HUGE, HUGE improvement over the Tasco I replaced). As you can see from the following journal entries, it works great! I really regret not buying this 15 years ago. What a waste!! I missed Halley's comet. I probably would have seen Hyakutake last year. I could've watched Shoemaker-Levy slam into Jupiter! -Maybe next time! :-)
